Pigmentation spots
Over the years, we are constantly exposed to sunlight. Pigment (melanin) protects your skin against UV radiation that is in sunlight. Pigment is a brown dye made by pigment cells. By delivering small granules of pigment to the outer layer of your epidermis, your skin gets its color. When this process is disrupted, accumulations of melanin or pigment spots can occur. There are many types of pigment spots, but two variants are most common. These are melasma (pregnancy mask) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). There are several options to treat and prevent pigmentation. Examples are: medical peels, skinpen or the Cosmelan treatment. During the consultation, we will look at which treatment is best for you.

Melasma (Pregnancy Mask)
Melasma is a skin condition in which symmetrical pigment spots are caused by a combination of predisposition, sunlight, heat and hormone balance. For example, it can arise after or during pregnancy, when using contraception or hormone medication. It is a pigment disorder in which dark brown spots on the skin often arise in the deeper layers of the skin. Melasma mainly occurs on the forehead, cheeks, temples, around the eyes and on the upper lip. Melasma is a bit more difficult to treat. For this skin condition, the Cosmelan or Dermamelan is an effective treatment to reduce the pigment spots. During the intake, a customized treatment plan is put together by our skin therapists to reduce the pigment spots

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Due to inflammation of the skin, an excess of pigment is produced in the skin. The pigment can arise after a wound, acne, skin irritation or around a surgical scar. The dark discoloration occurs exactly where the inflammation or redness is located and becomes visible as soon as the inflammation disappears. Dark-skinned people are more likely to suffer from PIH than light-skinned people

Pigment formation intimate zones
Pigment formation is unpredictable. Sometimes there is suddenly a lot of pigment in 1 place, including in the intimate zones. Dark pigment spots on intimate parts such as the pubic area, thighs and armpits arise because there are physiologically more pigment cells present here than on other parts of the body. Triggers such as pregnancy, shaving, many waxing sessions and friction due to tight clothing can play a role in this. With the Dermamelan Intimate, the excess pigment is cleared up by a double effect: reducing and regulating pigment. Dermamelan Intimate consists of a treatment in the clinic and a home treatment. In addition to reducing pigment, skin quality and skin structure will also improve.
