Acne treatment
Almost everyone has had to deal with acne in their life. It is one of the most common skin diseases. Acne can be recognized by oily skin, blackheads, red bumps, pimples or subcutaneous inflammation.
Acne often arises due to various factors that have to do with the changes in the hormone system. The hormone changes cause:
-
Stimulation of sebum production in the sebaceous glands. This makes the skin oilier and can cause acne.
-
The stratum corneum consists of dead skin cells, due to the hormone changes, the stratum corneum becomes thicker. As a result, the drainage of sebum is blocked. This clogs the sebaceous glands and can cause acne.
In addition to the hormone balance playing a role, acne can also arise and be influenced by internal and external factors.
-
Genetic factors, if other family members have also suffered from severe acne.
-
Contact with substances that cause blockage of the sebaceous gland. This can be done, for example, through skin care products.
-
Certain drugs
Therapy
At the first visit, an intake with skin analysis is performed to collect the necessary data. Based on this, a customized advice and treatment plan is put together. The skin therapist will give advice on skin care and use of cosmetics. The treatment starts with the skin being cleaned, impurities are removed, after which a peeling is applied. A mask can be applied to soothe the skin. After the treatment, the skin may be red and swollen for a short time. Possibly all or part of the face may peel slightly and superficial scabs may appear. It is possible that due to the treatment, the acne temporarily increases during the first days after the treatment and that the skin is even more sensitive.
Treatment trajectory
An acne treatment takes an average of 60 minutes. The treatment can be repeated every 2-4 weeks. The duration of the treatment process depends on the nature and extent of the problem. During the first consultation, and certainly after a few treatments, the skin therapist can indicate approximately how much time the treatment will require. First of all, the skin is made acne-free as far as possible, after which maintenance treatments ensure that the skin remains in the best possible condition.
